Dr.
Gary Sargent
Dr. Sargent is a native of Reno. He grew up in the
foothills of Southwest Reno where he enjoyed exploring the outdoors
with family, friends and his dogs. |
|
He attended public schools and graduated
from the University of Nevada with a B.A. in Zoology. After graduation
from Colorado State University with his doctorate in veterinary
medicine, Dr. Sargent joined the doctors at Klaich Animal Hospital
where he enjoyed a professionally gratifying and successful 30-year
career. He retired in January 2008 to seek new challenges and
pursue the goal of creating a new hospital with his new business
partner Dr. Erin Rasmusson.
Dr. Sargent's professional interests include internal
medicine, soft-tissue surgery, dermatology, oncology and dentistry
for dogs and cats. His personal interests seek a balance between
year-round outdoor fitness and academic interests in veterinary
continuing education, current affairs, economics, foreign language
and diverse non-fiction reading.
Dr.
Sargent is married to Elaine (Pappas), also a native of Reno.
They have a son, Patrick, who graduated from Annapolis in 2006
and is currently a U.S. Navy pilot. Finally, there is Moe, their
golden retriever who is loving and trusting in his efforts to
join them in many adventures.

Dr.
Erin Rasmusson
Dr. Erin Rasmusson
was born in Bozeman, Montana, but spent her childhood in Northwest
Ohio, where animals were part of her life from an early age. Rabbits,
chickens, goats, dogs, cats and a horse named "Big Red" all spent
time under Dr. Rasmusson's watchful eye at her parents' home.
|
|
She
graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, where she ran
cross-country and graduated after just three years with a double
major in chemistry and biology. Dr. Rasmusson next attended The
Ohio State University's School of Veterinary Medicine, where she
was enthralled to learn both in the classroom and from her many
positions - including foal-sitter, receptionist, parasitology laboratory
technician, llama and alpaca herd manager, equine ICU technician,
accountant and many others - at the School's Teaching Hospital.
She graduated from Ohio State in June of 2003, married her high-school
sweetheart and moved to Reno that same year. Upon arrival in Northern
Nevada, Dr. Rasmusson began her career with a small-animal internship
split between Carson City and Reno. During that first year she spent
her time working with and learning from veterinarians focused on
internal medicine, cardiology, radiology and orthopedic & soft tissue
surgery. Although she had intended to spend her professional life
treating all creatures great and small, she soon learned that she
truly wished to direct her practice toward providing compassionate
service for dogs, cats and their owners. With that in mind, she
began working at Klaich Animal Hospital, a very busy small-animal
practice, soon after her internship. In her nearly four years with
Klaich, Dr. Rasmusson enjoyed the opportunity to learn from the
Hospital's wonderful veterinarians, provide treatment and assistance
to a great many patients and their owners.
Dr. Rasmusson is now very excited to open Southwest Veterinary
Hospital with Gary Sargent, D.V.M., accomplishing her dream of
owning and operating a veterinary hospital. Although Dr. Rasmusson
enjoys all aspects of treating dogs and cats - she has received
extra training through continued education in abdominal ultrasound
and orthopedic surgery. She hopes to bring her experience, energy
and compassion to her clients while striving to provide the best
care possible to her patients.
Outside
of the office, Dr. Rasmusson enjoys hiking, running, camping, snowboarding
and many other outdoor activities, with her husband Brent Ryman
and their two dogs, Ellie Mae and Pacino. Dr. Gonzo (Dr. Rasmusson's
feline companion since Veterinary School) prefers to remain home
and enjoy the Truckee Meadows' ample sunbeams. |
